Pendraft Privacy Policy

Pendraft is a handwriting notes and PDF annotation app for Android, developed by Pradyumna Jayaram ("we"). This policy explains what the app does with your information. In short: your notes, documents and recordings stay on your device. We do not run servers that receive your content, we do not show ads, and we do not sell or share personal data.
Data stored on your device

Notes, handwriting, typed text, PDF annotations, images you insert, audio recordings, to-do items, custom brushes, fonts and settings are saved in the app's private storage on your device. They are not uploaded anywhere by Pendraft. Uninstalling the app deletes them unless you have made a backup.
Microphone

Pendraft asks for microphone access only when you start an audio recording inside a note or PDF. Recordings are saved on your device and are never sent to us. A notification is shown while a recording is in progress.
Notifications and reminders

If you add a to-do with a reminder, Pendraft asks for permission to show notifications and schedules the reminder on your device.
Calendar

When you choose "Add to calendar" for a sticky note, Pendraft opens your calendar app with the note text filled in. Pendraft does not read your calendar; the event is created only if you save it in your calendar app.
Handwriting recognition

Convert to text uses Google ML Kit Digital Ink Recognition, which runs on your device. The language model is downloaded once from Google. Your handwriting is recognised on the device and is not sent to us. ML Kit may send Google limited, anonymous diagnostic and usage information about the ML Kit service itself, as described in Google's ML Kit terms. What Pendraft learns from your corrections is stored only on your device.
Backups

Backups happen only when you ask for them. You can export a backup file, back up to a folder you choose (which may be a cloud-synced folder of your choice), or, if you enable it, back up to the hidden app folder of your own Google Drive using Google sign-in. Backups go directly from your device to the location you choose; we never receive them.
Files you open

PDFs and other files you open are read through Android's file picker with your permission and are not uploaded.
Children

Pendraft is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
Data deletion

Because your data is stored on your device, you can delete it at any time by deleting notes inside the app, clearing the app's storage in Android settings, or uninstalling the app. Delete backups from wherever you saved them.
Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
